Portraits 2008 - 2014

2014

Portraits 2008 – 2014 is a portrait series of 80 photographs consisting solely of found images that all originate from public police archives.

The seemingly ordinary young girls and boys pose fiercely in front of the camera in the distinct style of a fashion shoot or portraits one might come across in professional booking agency's catalogue for future models. In this project two otherwise contrasting motives are at play, the innocence of youth, beauty, and the brutality of the criminal's image. The images are projected on a wall and change at 30 seconds intervals intermittently within the installation.

The work was exhibited as part of the group exhibition Festival of Choices at TAAK / De Punt in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Participants: Perrine Bailleux (FR), Alex Bailey (UK), Hrafnhildur Helgadóttir (IS), Pedro Moraes (BR), Nina Fránkova (PL), Richard John Jones (UK), Melanie Ebenhoch (AT), Tamara Kuselman (AR), Joyce Vlaming (NL), Alissa Šnaider (EE), Venjamin Kazachenko (NL/RU), Matthew Shannon (UK), Adam Ulbert (BG), and Rikke Ehlers Nilsson.
